I just happen to be a retired mechcanic, with small engines, state inspection licence for all types of vehicles. Right out of the box, the tiller had no oil in the engine. I filled the Briggs with oil. Started on the first pull, but that's all it would do. Put tiller in forward, reverse, and it just sat there. Pulled off the side cover, and the belt was never put on the idler pulley. The flat part of the belt, must go over the Idler pulley. Well I fixed that. Started to till, and ran it for about one minute. I noticed the transmission was a little noisy. There is a grease fitting on the transmission housing. Pumped an ounce of grease into the housing, and ran fine from then on. I could understand this, if someone would buy a used piece of equipment, but not a new one. Husqvarna needs some quality control. This is not Amazons fault. Husqvarna packed this, in there own packing material! 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Husqvarna CRT900 14-Inch Briggs & Stratton 900 Series Gas Powered Counter Rotation Rear Tine Tiller (Lawn & Patio) Tiller was easy to assemble and get running. After about 30 minutes of use, a horrible screeching noise came from the transmission when in Forward, Forward with till, or Reverse. I've seen this problem mentioned online in other reviews and the official Husqvarna advice is to take it to an authorized servicing dealer for service. Of course, Husqvarna customer service is closed on weekends when most of their residental consumers are using their products. Out of frustration, I shot about 16 oz of grease into the right size zerk fitting, then removed the fitting and put an ounce of oil in there, and then put the zerk fitting back in. Silenced the problem (at least temporarily) and I was able to finish breaking the sod on a new 1500 sq ft garden. The tiller runs nice, but apparently there's some sort of problem with lubing the transmission at the factory and their QA isn't finding it.If you're tall like me, you'll be wishing that the handle was about 6 inches longer... I think it could plow all day. Nice powerful machine. Easy to start. Runs great and tills nicely. Everything is good except I have a little bit of a hard time handling it. I am tilling a garden area my father gardened maybe 15 years ago...an established garden spot. But it seems like hard work...and the only thing I can contribute that to is the counter rotation of the tines. Like one review regarding that option said...you have to nudge the thing through the job...and that is a little tough. If I had to choose over, I think I'd rather till a spot a couple of extra times going different directions than nudging this tiller along. Maybe once I've used the garden a season or two the tilling will not be this hard. Or, hey, maybe all tilling is a pretty good workout. |
