After researching and listening to salesmen, we chose this one. (He was very skeptical because he thinks bigger is better.) Anyway, after the garden dried out from the rains, he tried out the new Bronco. He complained to me that he had to push it through the garden. I just thought he was saying that because he wanted a larger one. (Keep in mind, our garden has been worked about 10 years and is now a mixture of lots of clay, and little topsoil, so it is still "thick" and hard.) I finally got to try the tiller out, and on the first pass, through the edge of the garden that had not been tilled as much, it went great. Once I got into the garden that had been worked over the previous years, I had to push the tiller. I also had to lift it up to keep it from getting stuck in the dirt. It would till down, but the tires are not big enough to pull it. Guess where it is now... Read more 29 of 31 people found the following review helpful By Jenny G. "Jenny G." (Morgantown, WV) - See all my reviews This review is from: Troy-Bilt Bronco 208cc 4-Cycle Gas Powered Rear Bolo Tine Tiller (Lawn & Patio) I am so happy with this purchase. It's my first tiller so I really wasn't sure what to expect. I watch my strong brother-in-law struggle with his front tine tiller every year and thought I would face the same. Even though I've read that rear tine tillers are easier to handle, I thought I would still have a hard time because I'm a 44 year old woman with pitiful upper body strength:)....Well I was wrong....It came assembled. I added gas and it started on the first pull. It plowed through that clay, rocky dirt like it was dry sand. It also cut up the dry weeds and brush (that I neglected to clear last year)and mixed it in the soil as it spit apple size rock out the side. 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Troy-Bilt Bronco 208cc 4-Cycle Gas Powered Rear Bolo Tine Tiller (Lawn & Patio) This is a great tiller for my use which is tilling between garden rows and around trees to eliminate weeds. I have tilled quite a bit of ground getting ready for tree planting. The 1st thing I noticed is that you can't till at full depth on the first pass with this tiller. The tires don't have enough grip. 2-3" is tops. On the second pass you can get down to full depth. The engine has plenty of power and will work as well at idle speed as full speed - just a little slower. The tilling speed could be faster and combined with the 14" width, tilling a 20x20' piece of ground takes about 15 min. It seems to be well built and I expect it to last for many years. One thing that could be stronger is the handle. It is very easy to manouver for a tiller, but the handle tends to flex when turning and has even bent a little in one direction or the other. If you have a big garden and need to do a lot of tilling, I would recommend getting a bigger tiller with... Read more |
