I have owned several tillers in my life and this tiller beats them all by far, hands down. The Honda engine, although rather small (and I had my doubts about at first), runs flawlessly and has enough power to cut through small roots with no problems. This tiller is excellent for tilling up areas that have never been tilled before (ex: a grassy back yard). I have yet to kill this tiller during operation from tilling over something such as roots, rocks, etc.

So far, I have owned this tiller about 3 months, and I have tilled my garden (about 30x50 sq. ft.) four times now without running out of gas from the initial fill-up. The dual rotating tines (with reverse and forward options) make tilling a breeze in comparison to other tillers on the market. Each time I've used this machine, I have been able to operate it with only one hand while walking beside it (even in hard-packed soil). This tiller also has an adjustable handle (the main shaft) which makes it easier to till... Read more

This tiller rocks! I tilled my garden plot in under 30 minutes with no stress to my back, legs or arms. No fighting the machine, it just hummed along breaking up the area into nice powdery loam. This is one of the best purchases I've ever made.

had originally planned to purchase a Troybuilt--had gone so far as to order one when further investigation of Troybuilt tillers decided the price premium was out of line and cancellled it (thank you Amazon)-- and purchased the Husqvarna instead.

I've built five beds over the past several weeks and I'm impressed and glad I saved the thousand dollars over the price of the Troybuilt.

I'd give it five stars but for the short time I've used it. Will wait for a full season and the through the start of a second one to see if it mechanically earns a 5th star.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warantte service is not existent, October 27, 2010

This review is from: Troy-Bilt Big Red 12-Inch 305cc Briggs & Stratton 1450 ES Series Forward Rotating Rear Tine Tiller (Lawn & Patio)
I received my Big Red Garden Tiller all crated up. It was the next weekend that I was able to uncrate it. Sure nuff, one tire was flat and off the rim. I tried airing it up myself but could not get it to take air. Took it off and took it to a tire repair shop. They got it aired up but it only held for 3 days. Tried again and it only held for 2 days. Tried to contact the 4 service centers in my area but they would not help me as they said Troy-Built would not pay them. Tried to email Troy-Built with no response. Finally I got them on the phone but they said it was past 30 days since I had placed the order and tires were a normal wear item so they would not guaranteed.

Also, the shift knob will not stay on.

I have now had it 2 months and it has never been in the ground. Really disapointing when they have had such a good reputation -- or is it just good hype! I would NOT recommend anything they sell.

I have owned several Troy Bilt tillers over the years. All of them have been good. I needed a larger one to tackle my 2 acre garden. Even though the Pony did well.
Big Red made short work of it. Now only use the Pony for touch up. Strongly recommend buying the hiller/furrower attachment because it will save you a lot of work.

Also bought the dozer blade attachment. It was a luxury I could have skipped. It's excellent for moving snow off of your sidewalk and driveways. It also did a pretty good job of moving large brush piles. Piles of sand bogged it down.

The cage around the engine is an engine saver especially if you hit a rock while tilling your garden next to a fence. Even used it to dig trenches for waterlines with the hiller attachment, small ditches around trees, and tow large logs to a brush pile. It also did a great job of cutting through the larger tree roots that I hit while tilling new areas.

I am very happy with this Tiller... Read more

Troy-Bilt, have been using them since 1973, have worn out two previous 8 hp Horse models. This is the first one since MTD took over. New one a lemon. Poorly assembled (loose nuts/bolts all over it), took it to garden after going over all nuts/bolts, fired it up, engaged tines and instant metal grinding noise from transmission. Into warranty shop with less that 5 min. on it. Depends on what shop says, you may be getting this one back.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay for a tiny garden, April 18, 2009
This review is from: Troy-Bilt Bronco 208cc 4-Cycle Gas Powered Rear Bolo Tine Tiller (Lawn & Patio)
My husband and I searched everywhere for a small rear tine tiller that I could handle better than the "huge" one we had. After researching and listening to salesmen, we chose this one. (He was very skeptical because he thinks bigger is better.) Anyway, after the garden dried out from the rains, he tried out the new Bronco. He complained to me that he had to push it through the garden. I just thought he was saying that because he wanted a larger one. (Keep in mind, our garden has been worked about 10 years and is now a mixture of lots of clay, and little topsoil, so it is still "thick" and hard.) I finally got to try the tiller out, and on the first pass, through the edge of the garden that had not been tilled as much, it went great. Once I got into the garden that had been worked over the previous years, I had to push the tiller. I also had to lift it up to keep it from getting stuck in the dirt. It would till down, but the tires are not big enough to pull it. Guess where it is now... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!!!!, March 18, 2009

This review is from: Troy-Bilt Bronco 208cc 4-Cycle Gas Powered Rear Bolo Tine Tiller (Lawn & Patio)
I am so happy with this purchase. It's my first tiller so I really wasn't sure what to expect. I watch my strong brother-in-law struggle with his front tine tiller every year and thought I would face the same. Even though I've read that rear tine tillers are easier to handle, I thought I would still have a hard time because I'm a 44 year old woman with pitiful upper body strength:)....Well I was wrong....It came assembled. I added gas and it started on the first pull. It plowed through that clay, rocky dirt like it was dry sand. It also cut up the dry weeds and brush (that I neglected to clear last year)and mixed it in the soil as it spit apple size rock out the side.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Tiller but has limited abilities, July 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Troy-Bilt Bronco 208cc 4-Cycle Gas Powered Rear Bolo Tine Tiller (Lawn & Patio)
This is a great tiller for my use which is tilling between garden rows and around trees to eliminate weeds. I have tilled quite a bit of ground getting ready for tree planting.

The 1st thing I noticed is that you can't till at full depth on the first pass with this tiller. The tires don't have enough grip. 2-3" is tops. On the second pass you can get down to full depth. The engine has plenty of power and will work as well at idle speed as full speed - just a little slower. The tilling speed could be faster and combined with the 14" width, tilling a 20x20' piece of ground takes about 15 min.

It seems to be well built and I expect it to last for many years. One thing that could be stronger is the handle. It is very easy to manouver for a tiller, but the handle tends to flex when turning and has even bent a little in one direction or the other.

If you have a big garden and need to do a lot of tilling, I would recommend getting a bigger tiller with... Read more
